What are the common malfunctions of roller shutter doors?

Roller shutters are prone to various malfunctions during long-term use due to environmental factors and component wear and tear. The following are four common scenarios:

1. The process is slow and laggy.

When the roller shutter door starts or closes, it may not move smoothly, exhibiting noticeable stagnation or jamming. This is often due to dust, debris, or other contaminants accumulating inside the track, obstructing the door's normal sliding. It could also be caused by severe wear and tear on the rollers on both sides of the door after prolonged use, reducing their rolling flexibility. To resolve this issue, first carefully clean the debris from inside the track, then inspect the rollers. If wear or deformation is found on the rollers, replace them promptly to restore smooth door operation.

2. Unable to raise or lower normally

After pressing the control switch, the roller shutter door does not move at all, completely losing its lifting function. First, check the power connection, looking for loose or disconnected power cords, or poor contact at the power interface. If the power supply is fine, the problem may be with the drive motor, such as a burnt-out motor coil, a damaged capacitor, or a stuck or broken chain or gear in the transmission system. You need to check the motor and transmission components one by one, and repair or replace them after finding the fault.

3. Abnormal noises during operation

When a roller shutter door is in operation, it may emit noticeable abnormal noises, such as friction sounds, impact sounds, or piercing screams. These problems are usually caused by loose connections, such as loose screws securing the track, causing the door to collide with the track during operation; it could also be due to insufficient lubrication of rotating parts such as rollers and bearings, resulting in dry friction; in addition, if the track is deformed due to external pressure, it will also cause abnormal noise when the door is in operation. Loose parts should be tightened first, and then special lubricating oil should be added to the rotating parts. If the track is deformed, it needs to be repaired or replaced.

4. Control panel malfunction

After pressing the button on the control panel, the roller shutter door does not respond and cannot be controlled to raise or lower. A common cause is a problem with the wiring between the control panel and the motor, such as poor contact, aging, or breakage, preventing proper signal transmission. It could also be due to damaged internal components of the control panel, preventing it from receiving or transmitting operating commands. In this case, first check the wiring connections, ensuring the joints are secure and the wiring is undamaged. If the wiring is normal, replace the control panel to restore functionality.

In daily use, regularly cleaning the tracks and lubricating rotating parts can effectively reduce the occurrence of malfunctions. If you encounter complex malfunctions that you cannot resolve yourself, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel to avoid further damage caused by self-disassembly and to ensure the safety and lifespan of the roller shutter door.
